Our Methodology

How We Review Every Tool

Every review on Steeny Reviews follows the same rigorous process — tested in a real business, priced honestly, and written without bias. Here's exactly how we do it.

Real usage — no free trials
Pricing verified at time of review
Alternatives always considered
Updated when things change

Most review sites are written by people who signed up for a free trial, clicked around for 20 minutes, and published a review. That's not how we work. Every tool reviewed on Steeny Reviews is one we've personally paid for and used in a live business — often for months or years. Our reviews are based on real results, real frustrations, and real money spent.

Our 6-Step Review Process

Every single review follows this process — no shortcuts, no exceptions.

1

We Use the Tool in a Real Business

Before writing a single word, we use the tool ourselves — in a live Shopify store, Essentials Houses, with real customers, real orders, and real money on the line. We don't review tools from demos or free trials.

For tools we've been using for years (like Klaviyo), we draw on that full history. For newer tools, we run them for a minimum of 30 days before publishing.

Minimum 30 days of use Real business context Paid account required
2

We Verify All Pricing

Pricing is checked directly on the tool's official website at the time of publishing. We document the full pricing structure — free plan limits, paid tier costs, annual vs monthly differences, and any hidden fees that aren't obvious upfront.

We also note when pricing has recently changed, because many tools quietly increase prices without announcement.

3

We Document Honest Pros and Cons

Every review includes a genuine pros and cons section — not a marketing spin where "cons" are trivial complaints designed to seem balanced. If a tool has a significant limitation, we say so clearly, even if that means lower affiliate commissions.

We give equal weight to both sides. A tool with 5 great features and 1 dealbreaker flaw will have that flaw prominently featured — not buried at the bottom of the review.

No sugarcoating Dealbreakers highlighted Based on real usage
4

We Research the Best Alternatives

No tool is right for everyone. For every review, we identify 2-3 genuine alternatives and explain exactly when you should choose one over another. The goal is to help you find the right tool for your situation — not just promote one tool regardless of fit.

If a cheaper or free alternative genuinely does the same job, we'll tell you — even if the main tool pays higher commissions.

5

We Define Exactly Who It's Best For

Every review ends with a clear "who it's for / who it's not for" breakdown. A tool that's perfect for a Shopify store doing $10k/month might be overkill for someone just starting out. We match tools to stages of growth.

This section is the most important part of any review — the right tool at the wrong stage is just wasted money.

Stage-of-growth matching Clear use case fit Who should NOT use it
6

We Update Reviews When Things Change

SaaS tools change pricing, features, and quality constantly. A glowing review from 2022 might not be accurate today. We revisit every review when we become aware of significant changes — pricing increases, feature removals, or better alternatives emerging.

Each review displays a "Last Updated" date so you always know how current the information is.

How We Score Tools

Our rating out of 5 is based on five equally weighted criteria. No single factor dominates the score.

Value for Money
20%

Does the price match the value delivered? We consider free plan generosity, paid tier pricing, and whether cheaper alternatives exist.

Ease of Use
20%

How quickly can a non-technical entrepreneur get value from the tool? Setup complexity, learning curve, and documentation quality all count.

Features & Functionality
20%

Does it do what it promises? We test core features thoroughly and flag any that are missing, broken, or underwhelming compared to competitors.

Integrations
20%

How well does it connect with the tools entrepreneurs actually use — Shopify, Google, Meta, and others in the standard stack?

Support & Reliability
20%

When something goes wrong — and it always does — how responsive is the support team? We test this directly, not from the marketing page.

Our Affiliate Disclosure

Some links on Steeny Reviews are affiliate links. This means if you click a link and purchase a tool, we may earn a commission — at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the site free and the reviews independent.

However, affiliate relationships never influence our ratings or recommendations. We have turned down affiliate partnerships with tools we don't believe in, and we have given low ratings to tools that pay high commissions when they deserved it. The review comes first — always.

If we don't have an affiliate relationship with a tool, we still review it if it's good. If we do have an affiliate relationship, we disclose it clearly. Every review that contains affiliate links includes a disclosure notice at the bottom.
