Why I Started with Judge.me
When I launched Essentials Houses, budget was tight and I needed social proof fast. Judge.me's free plan was the obvious starting point — it lets you collect unlimited text reviews, send automated review request emails, and display them on your store without paying a cent. For a store just starting out, this is genuinely valuable.
The paid plan at $15/month unlocks photo reviews, which was the main thing I wanted. At that price, the ROI from improved conversions covers the cost within the first week of a well-performing month.
If you want to see how the widget actually looks in production rather than in Judge.me's marketing screenshots, it's running live on my store — for example on this vegetable cutter product page, where you can scroll down and see the review widget exactly as customers do.
Judge.me's free plan is one of the most genuinely useful free tiers in the Shopify app ecosystem. Don't let anyone talk you into paying for something more expensive when you're starting out — use Judge.me free until you're generating enough revenue to justify the upgrade.
Where Loox Outperforms Judge.me
Loox is built around one thing: photo and video reviews as a growth engine. The incentive system is clever — it automatically offers customers a discount on their next purchase in exchange for leaving a photo review. This drives both UGC collection and repeat purchases simultaneously.
If you're building a brand that relies heavily on visual social proof — kitchen products, beauty, home décor, fitness — Loox's photo-first approach can genuinely move the needle on conversion rates. The review widgets also look more polished out of the box.
Loox also has a built-in referral program that Judge.me lacks, which can be valuable for stores in the right niche.
The Honest Verdict
Start with Judge.me. The free plan is excellent, the $15/month paid plan is fair, and it covers everything most Shopify stores need — text reviews, photo reviews, Google Shopping integration, and AliExpress import.
Upgrade to Loox only if photo and video UGC is a core part of your marketing strategy and you're willing to pay the higher price for the polished UGC focus. For most stores, Judge.me at $15/month delivers better value than Loox at $29.99/month.
